Could you all tell me your luck with the different brands of marine grade cd/stereos? I just read the reviews on the West Marine brand and it's not good! I am wanting to upgrade from my junky stereo cassette player, but don't want to end up with a piece of junk. I don't want to spend load of cash either. Thanks for all your input

Re: CD/Stereo question

i recently installed a jenson am/fm/cd player (not sure the model, but about $140 at boat us). i went high with the speakers- polyplanar. very happy with the unit, gets great reception with a small wire antenna stuffed in the electronics box. cd player works well, and doesn't skip while trolling in a rough bay. sounds great with the polyplanar speakers. only had it for about a month, so not sure on durability yet. good luck-

Re: CD/Stereo question

I have been running a JVC Car Stereo with Remote in my boat for the last 3 years and never had a problem with it. I do have it encased in one of the Plastic waterproof cavities you can purchase for this.

This and Bose Speakers it rocks.

Good luck, but I don't think I would pay the high dollar for the marine stereo.

Bryan

Re: CD/Stereo question

I'm with Bry. I use a car stereo in my boats. As long as your not really getting the stereo too wet, you should be fine. And, usually the stereo is protected from water anyway. I have an Alpine head unit, 2 Alpine amps, 6x9's, 6.5's and subs, none of which are marine equipment, except the 6.5's in the rear bench, as they are subjected to water from vests and rope etc....I would stay away from the "marine" stereos at the boat sales places. Yes, they probably are better suited to the marine environment, but, not really a necessity I don't think. Alsi, very pricy compared to going to Circuit City, or Best Buy etc. for a car stereo.
