cdi timing arm

I have a 1993 50 hp yamaha. The cdi timing arm (needle) is hard to move. After throttling up I can't throttle down. The question I have is: is there a bushing or something in the cdi giving me my problems and can it be fixed or will I have to buy a new cdi unit. The motor runs fine--purs like a kitten, just can't stop! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: cdi timing arm

try spraying the shaft with Fluid film. other than that its CDI replacement time.

Thanks Rodbolt--not the answer I was hoping for.
Might be time to face the facts though.

Also make sure that it is the CDI arm and not the oil arm binding.

Thanks Ray,
I have not pulled cdi unit yet to determine what is exactly going. This little thing called "work" keeps getting in my way. I appreciate the post.
R.J.
