CDI unit test?

I have a 1985 DT65. I tried to change the ignition switch from a key switch to a push button, and along the way I think I damaged the CDI unit. The engine will crank but not run. I noticed there is no spark on the plugs when I crank the engine. I tested both wires running into the CDI unit while cranking and they are both bringing in current. The one white wire that heads out of the CDI to the coil then spark plugs doesn't have a current running through it when I crank the engine. Since the CDI is getting current but not putting out current does that mean it's broken or is there still something else I'm missing? Is there a way to test the CDI before I go and buy another one? There aren't any shops in my area that will work on a Suzuki, so I'll probably have to figure this out myself.

Thanks for any help!

Re: CDI unit test?

Your CDI is fine, they are expensive so don't buy a new one .... here is your problem, .... what did you do with the kill switch? Your motor will crank till your battery is flat, but will not start unless you have the kill switch in ....

Re: CDI unit test?

As far as I know, there isen't a "kill switch". All I did was cut the wires to the ignition switch then re-route them to two separate switches (one for ignition an the other to start). I know that there is a wire to stop the engine from running, but I don't have that wire touching anything else when I attempt to start the motor.

I ended up touching random wires together in an attempt to make the boat start (assuming my wiring diagram was incorrect), which I think may have caused damage somewhere. Is that possible? Maybe I burned a fuse that I can't find? All I see is one fuse that goes to the starter

There is always a "kill switch" or "emergency switch" ..... see the wiring colours below, courtesy of JUSTINTIME ....
