1989 50HP
I am wondering if is worth continuing to try and trouble shoot my capacitor discharge module or just replace it. The symptoms are as follows:
Weak, erratic spark off one Ignition Coil pack. Strong even spark off the other. 2 cycle, so only 2 Ignition coil packs.
Replacing the plugs makes no difference.
Removed bracket and disconnected all wiring. Checked for any loose or frayed wires. Replaced 2 that appeared crushed from the CDM to one of the coil packs.
One Ignition Coil is still not firing strongly, but when I switch the "bad" coil with the other, it generates a strong spark. (ruled out Coil pack i think)
So, one of the leads off the CDM could be bad? and failing to generate a strong current to the coil pack? Or just a bad CDM?
Looking up and around the fly wheel, the trigger wires appear to be intact, not pinched and with good connections. I don't have any tools to easily remove the fly wheel to thoroughly inspect the magnets in the stator or the trigger itself.
This boat is new to me so I don't know what was replaced in the motor if anything. The guy I got it from has even less boat knowledge than me.
Performance result is a decreased horse power and the boat not able to get out of the hole.
Compression in both cylinders is 120.
