Re: Cell phone questions

Only if you have a cell phone. More than likely you have a digital phone, for which they were not made for, and really dont do anything. I dont use a headset so I really cant help you there.

Re: Cell phone questions

Have you ever noticed? That a person talking on a conventional telephone, will always, if other people are near, will sort of cower down and try to be secretive about their conversation BUUTT!!! If they are talking into a cellphone, they almost always, no matter where they are, table at restaurant, doctors office, hospital waiting room, check out lane, whatever, will talk in a slow loud manner, disrupting conversations, varied task, whatever may be going on.  Now, I personally have never spoke into a cell phone (and because of the disgusting use of them never intend too, plus I hate telephones unless it's an emergency) is this out of necessity because of inferior sound transmission? Or are most persons unconsciously just without making an effort showing off the fact that they are using a cellphone? Hey!!, don't take my word for it, look around take notice, inadvertantly if someone is within earshot of another and using a cellphone, they will talk in a loud voice, but if on a conventional phone will cower in a corner, and cup the mouthpiece in their hand. Just doesn't figure!!.  :D :D :D :D

LOL!

Yea, I've noticed that too. Definately annoying.

Goes right along with that annoying ring tone they have...AND they have to let the whole dang song play out too!

JUST ANSWER THE **** PHONE!!!

I don't like phones either, but it has now become cheaper for me to have a cell phone than a regular land line. The safety of a cell phone is obvious.

What chaps my buttocks the most is people driving while talking (without the hands free)
Then as you've mentioned...people in busy places (stores, etc...)
I've watched numerous times when people go into a store while on the phone and not even miss a beat when they get back into their car!

Thanks for the input guys...

H.

And the antenna boosters...Do they work?

No that's why you can buy a 100 of them on eBay for $1 just a scam

What kind of 'hands-free' stuff do you use that works the best and lasts?

CCM makes a device that plugs into your lighter and you sit your phone in - it has a built in speaker and microphone and works well. They have a common brand name but it escapes me at the moment. Fellows also makes one that works very well with a slightly different design.

Don;t get any of the ones that are universal - the sort that wrap around your phone - they all stink. Get one made for your phone.

Does a person really need an external antenna on their car?

Not if you have a good phone like a Nokia.

Re: Cell phone questions

All this talk over "stupid" people driving and talking on cell phones is absolute BullSh*t. I have owned and USED my phone for years in my car and never been in an accident on one (my fault or someone elses). I dont believe it is fair to blame the phones and ban them or pass laws against using them. The people causing accidents using a cell phone would just as easily cause it from changing the station (hey lets ban radios), or looking at people in other cars (hey lets ban other people driving, one person max per road please), or putting on make up (hey lets ban....nevermind, some need it). Anyway lay off saying it is the phone causing accidents, fact is its the people using it.

Re: Cell phone questions

The reason people yell into cell phones is they feel that the microphone part is too far from their mouth so they YELL to be heard, and LOUDLY and they ANNOY everyone around. I considered buying one of those cell blockers but they're illegal, and expensive, it's cheaper to just YELL at them and ask them to SHUT UP.

rage the statics show that the second you pick up the cell phone your chances of having a wreck go up by 37% now if you think that is bull s^*% then come ride with me awhile and the first wreck we find for no apparent reason to happen then i'll let you pry the phone out of the victims hand

Re: Cell phone questions

all i can say is that rage must be from a diff part of Atlanta than i drive thru... its pretty obvious that people kill themselves doing all of the distracting things he mentioned, and yapping on a cell ph really seems to be the most common source of distraction nowadays.
doing things that require no thought-just habit, that is one thing. but how are most phones used? asking questions that require thought. i think the majority of commuters never really learned how to multi-task :D

Re: Cell phone questions

bubbakat, how many of thoose accidents are from people doing other things? I doubt they are all from using a cell phone. All im saying is that they should implement laws where cops could site theese people if they are causing issues while using. I dont mind having to use hands free but telling me that I cannot do something when there are plenty of other constituants is a blatant misuse of what we call government. Yes some are cause by the use, but not all.
Ebb, I drive in downtown all week. And yes i do see people doing stupid things on phones. But are stupid without in this town.

Re: Cell phone questions

You gotta love it when we can take some questions about cell phone accessories and turn it into a raging debate! :D

Re: Cell phone questions

LOL!!

I knew it would start a beef...Always does...!

Yes, anything can distract you, but come on...
Look at the stats! New York finally took the initiative and made a law to make it illegal to drive and talk on the phone.

I just wish other states would follow, but you know darn well it's because they haven't got enough 'accidents' to warrant a law.

Oh and Ralph...I did get a Nokia (3595). They make some good stuff. It was either a Nokia or Motorola. I wouldn't settle for less. (Imo)

Thanks for the suggestions (and debate  )

So these boosters aren't worth it? LOL
Figured as much.

How about an external antenna for the truck?
I do live in the country and regularly travel afar. I'd just like to have the best reception I can get. Any suggestions?

Kinda like the CB days...Always a Cobra 148GTL and a Palomar amplifier!

H.

Re: Cell phone questions

They have some window mount ant kits that seem pretty good although they are kinda pricey. They also sell them for boats - maybe you can get one you can use both places - helps to justify the expense
