Why is it that cell phone companies seem to always give better deals to new customers instead of taking care of the ones they already have. I'm a contractor and if I ran my business in this fashion I'd be run out of town. I can't give up my number cause I've had it to long. I here that in a month or so I'll be able to take my number and run. True or False

Thats what is suppose to happen tylerin, but we shall see if it becomes a reality.

I am waiting to see because I would love to dump my cell provider, but I too want to keep my number.

Too much stationary to change, and the cell provider could care less about additional expenses they would inflict upon you because they want to issue you a new number.

Kenny

You have to be abel to take your number and move to a new provider. It is now the law. The better deals for new people will always be a reality. They want to attract as many new clients as possible. I don't understadn why they also don't want to keep the current clients when renewing.

Hang on just a little longer. Sometime in November, I believe the 24th, it's government mandated that wireless carriers be able to port in existing numbers. You'll be able to take your existing phone number with you to any carrier you choose. There should be some good deals going around with all the carriers trying to steal one another's customers.

Re: cell phones

I sold Southwestern Bell service in st. louis about 4 years ago... Now Cingular.

At that time.... If an existing comstomer came in after their contract period was up,they would get a trade in credit towards new equipment, and would be able to pick out the same plans/promotions as the new customers.

It usually worked out pretty well, after the trade in credit, and not having to pay a $36 activation fee, they would make out pretty good.

Things have changed.. I had AT&T for about a year because their phone service worked better at my house. They had no interest in keeping existing comstomers. Now I am with Sprint, EXCELENT service area, but I don't know how they are with old customers that want to upgrade, as I've been with them less than a year.

I had lots of customers that could not change for the same reason, it was used for business. If it is made well known that people can change companies and keep the same #, I see cell phone rates going WAY down.... .. but I'm sure, there will be a fee to move that phone #, just watch.

But there will always be contracts to keep people from jumping ship.
