I live in the Austin area and I am looking for a used center console boat 16-18ft that i can use on lake buchanan, georetown, granger, travis, and take to the coast a couple times a year. what brand is the best all purpose center console boat to look for. I might have to drag the wife around in an inner tube some to keep her happy. I was looking in the $6,000-8,000 range. Any input on what not to buy or what brands seems to fit all purpose fishing.

thanks,
slawdog

Slawdog,

Nothing better, in my opinion, than a Boston Whaler-Montauk.

It would have to be an older one to fit in that price range. They're out there.

i'll also throw out there that there are atleast 30 different brands of center consoles on the market that could fit your need. probably nothing new with that money, but you can find something that someone took care of. that's the most important thing. i'd check out the numerous boat sales websites that offer a search engine and start there. good luck-

Slawdog,
You can get a heck of a whaler for around 6-8 grand, fix it up, and sell it high. I bought mine for $1,000 and had to completely restore it (paint it, wood work, engine rebuilt the works...) But If you would visit my website on the boat, you can clearly see of what a good job is. It is a major improvement. Thanks a lot

JAZZ ;)

http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/jazzwhaler/lst?&.dir=/My+Photos&.src=ph&.view=t
