Chafing Protection for Cables?

The control console on my boat is made of sheet aluminum. There are large openings through which the power and control cables exit. The previous owner had protected these cables, against chafing, by the edges of the openings, with pieces of water hose, attached with zip ties.

I'm looking for a more elegant solution (not that my boat is all that elegant - the cables simply run exposed along the gunnel to the transom area). Is there grommet material that comes in a strip or roll - so that it could be fitted to a large, irregularly shaped opening (would have to be UV protected since it would be exposed)? Or is there another solution other than the zip tied hose scraps?

Re: Chafing Protection for Cables?

You can get rubber grommets for the holes at a hardware store.

You use split wire loom for the bundle of wires.

It is a plastic tube that is split down the side, comes in 3/8' to 2" diameters.
Get it at hardware store, auto supply, or radio shack.
