Hello all, hope everyone is having a great boating season?

Trying to get out onto Lake Erie and do some trolling with my 19 ft. Sea Nymph Striper.

Need a long shaft motor for my application and my 77 Johnson 9.9 is a short shaft.
I'd like to change it to a long shaft motor.
I've got a long shaft gear case from another motor and a case extension.

By the looks of the parts diagram I still need:

Water tube extension
Water tube extension O ring.
Bolts / screws?

Is this all that's necessary to make the change?
Does anybody know what size / type bolts are required.
Is there a source other than OMC?
Any tips for making this change?

Thanks in advance for you help.

You may already have them, but you need the long shift rod and the extension tube that goes around the drive shaft (on top of the water pump)

Iboats has OEM parts available.

Just wondering, do you really need a long shaft? Depends on where the motor is placed and transom configuration, and amount of V at the bottom. Since there is no way it is going to plane, the motor doesn't have to be as deep as normal. If the prop is below the bottom line, it ought to work.

Thanks F-R.
Forgot to mention that I have the extension tube that goes around the drive shaft.
Is the long shift rod part of the long shaft gear case?
I'll have to check.

Boat has a huge splash well that makes for difficult access to raise and lower kicker motor.
Also the steering arm connection between main and kicker is the rear band clamp type.
If I can run the motor with the bracket in the upper most position I can line up the steering arm connector.
Short shaft motor prop is far enough below water line but not below bottom line of the boat.
The extra five inches will get me below the bottom line.

Found six bolts I think will work.
Any tips for doing this job?
thanks

Just wanted to follow up on the thread to report the successful change from short to long shaft.
For anybody doing this it's pretty straight forward.

Your new gear case will need the longer drive shaft and longer lower shift lever. If not you will have to acquire and add them.
You'll need the exhaust housing extension piece and tube that goes on top of the housing extension and six bolts.
Also needed is the water tube extension and O ring.

Just so you know.
The O ring fits inside the groove in the extension tube. Getting it in will be challenging but it does go inside and needs to be done.
Once the O ring is installed it may be difficult to get the tube extension to slide up over the existing water tube.
My water tube was slightly flared out at the bottom end. I had to bevel the end with a dremmel tool .
Used a generous amount of white lithium grease to get the extension onto the water tube.
It was a very tight fit.

If the gear case your using has been sitting around a while or you're not sure;
Drain the gear lube to check for water.
Check to make sure your gear case holds pressure / vacuum.
install a new water pump kit.
Add new gear oil.

Happy to report the change over is complete and the motor is running well. Hope to put some walleye in the boat soon.
Thanks to all.
