Top element is out on our GE oven. Was wondering how difficult this is to change?

Was also wondering the best place to get replacement element. We have a Menards and Sears in my town, several smaller appliance places too.

Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow Jeff :D

Check your yellow pages for "appliance parts" and see if they have it. You'll need model number and such from the stove to insure you get the correct part. Second choice would be the smaller stores.

It shouldn't be too hard to change. Should have one or two clips to hold the front and simply plug into the back.

Oh yeah, Safety Sams says turn off the breaker so you're not working on a live circuit. 220V can kill instantly.

It should be quite simple.
It's been a while since I have done this. There are two possibilties.
1. Remove a couple of mounting screws where the element goes through the oven back wall. Pull the element out and the ends with the wires come through the holes. Unhook wires and replace. The wattage should be marked on the element.
If the element won't come through then to unhook wires then you will need to take the back off the oven and disconnect the wire first.

UNPLUG THE OVEN BEFORE STARTING.

The top element looks to be fine. When I put the oven on Broil it lit up bright red.

My wife is saying that right half of the oven gets hotter than the left. The whole bottom element gets red hot, but kind of a dull red - not nearly as bright red as the top broiler element. So it looks like the bottom element may be shot?

Broiler elements always get hotter.

I bet the right side is hotter because the temperature probe is located on the upper left. With a pan in the oven that spot stays cooler as compared to the right.
