I am looking for some advice on my Skipper B trailer. I have a 16' Mirrocraft fiberglass boat with a 50hp Johnson. My trailer is a single axle and is in good shape, however, I've got it in my head that I should have a tandem axle trailer. Not so much for the weight load but for smoothness on the road and it would be easier on the jeep. Should I make a tandem axle trailer out of my current trailer and if so, how?
Any suggestion is appreciated.

I wouldn't, Michael.

Your rig is well within the weight range best handled by a single axle of the appropriate rating.

Dual axles require exact wheel alignment, use twice as many wheels, tires, hubs, springs and axles. That increases your towed weight and drag. They also usually require smaller tires that turn at higher rates and wear out quicker.

Up to a point the reduced ground clearance reduces wind resistance, but it also complicates clearance problems on rough ground and difficult ramps.

There is no way I would recommend a dual axle trailer when there is a single axle trailer that can handle the load.

Good luck. :)

JBs Right....

A couple more reasons ??
"My trailer is a single axle and is in good shape"
That Is Reason Enough...!!....

"smoothness on the road"
Not..... You'll Hit Every Bump, Twice as Many Times.........

"it would be easier on the jeep"
Not........ Have you Ever Tried to Turn an Empty Tandem Trailer by Hand, They Don't Turn..!!
It would be Alot Harder on your Jeep......

Stick with what you've got......

I personnally prefer a tandem, they back up so much better. BUT......... If the single axle works fine then don't fix it it it ain't broke.
