I have a 1992 80hp mercury. the guy I got it from said it had been sitting outside for the past year or so. the motor sounds really strong but I can't get it to go in reverse. any info on this would be great.
I have a 1992 80hp mercury outboard, The guy I purshed it from said it had been sitting outside for the past year. they changed the lower unit because it froze and busted. I got the motor running and it sounds really strong.the propeller turns only one way the way it is locked. can anyone help with this?
It sounds like they didn't get the shift shaft lined up when installing the lower unit, drop the unit down put it and the engine in rev and reinstall it
would it be possible, we took the lower unit off and we broke the shaft lose by turning the impeller the opposite way and breaking it lose. could it be possible it was just stuck? it seems to be working fine now.
