Went yesterday to a stricklands marine store to get some mercruiser synthetic oil.

they didn't have the red bottle synthetic blend...so I bought mercruisers regular 25w40 oil...this actually said mercruiser and was in a black 4qt bottle then I bought a 5 qt.

anyway. they was high and I remembered seeing quicksilver hp gear lube at walmart so I didn't buy the gear lube there.

went to walmart and bought quicksilver hp gear lube.

so I have mercruisers 25w40 regular non synthetic oil in the engine and quicksilvers High performance gear lube in the foot.

were these good chocies? I wanted synthetic in both but couldn't find mercruiser synthetic.

this went in my 84 260hp 350 engine and my 85 MR mercruiser outdrive

thanks

Re: changed my fluids today, couldn't find exactly what I wanted.

well the lube I drained out of my drive was blue...and what I put in was blue so I assume the high performance quicker silver I put in was what was already in it..? or most gear lubes might be blue not sure.

and the mercruiser 25w40 oil was from the dealer...paid too much was likw 25 bucks for 4 quarts! was in the pretty mercury bottle tho LOL...but at walmart the quick silver 25w40 is the exact same right? just in a silver bottle if so I'll by all quicksilver next time.

btw anyone know what color mercury/quicksilver regular premium gear lube is? is it blue aslo?

i think it's tan, looks more like engine oil. turns yellowish white when mixed with water...

if i remember right, the diff. between the hp and the premium, is the hp is synthetic and the premium is dino...

i think the difference between mercruiser and quicksilver is a marketing stratigy. the product is the same.

if i'm wrong, freely correct me...

made me get off my chair and go look. the 2 or three year old bottle of mercury premium gear lub is amber and looks like engine oil. i just went and looked. like i say though, my bottle is a couple of years old. so things may have changed...

the mercury hp gear lub i used for my drive is greenish blue..
