I just bought my first boat and am wanting to change the prop...It looks to be pretty straight forward...Just unlock the keeper and take the nut off. My questions were....how do you keep the prop/drive from spinning while taking it off and putting it on and how crucial is exact tourquing of the prop durning reinstallation??? Do you need a tourqe wrench or can you get by with just snugging it up w/ a ratchet and socket???

Thanks for any and all help,
Doogie

Put a short length of 2x4 between the anti-vent plate and a blade of the prop to hold in place when loosening or tightening the bolt. Don't absolutely have to use a torque wrench, though it's best until you get a feel for proper torque. Pay close attention to order of washers and spacers as they come off.

I use a 2x4 to position between the prop and the outdrive. As soon as the prop hits the board it will stop spinning and you can then loosen the nut. Make sure you use some waterproof grease on the shaft before putting the new one on.
