I am doing an overhaul on my boat trailer hubs. I want to change out the bearing cups and am having trouble removing the old ones. They seem to be in there good and don't want tto budge! I think they've been in there for many years as I purchased this boat and trailer second hand. They appear quite worn, so any help is much appreciated. The inner and outer bearing cups are the same size. My hub took 1.25 inch inner and outer bearings.

Re: Changing Bearing Cups

There are a few ways to get them out, more limited by tools available than anything. Probably the cheapest is to use a punch/large screwdriver (flat) and CAREFULLY drive out the race from the opposite side. You could use a brass drift or a hardwood dowel as well (no damage). A puller that has reverse spread jaws will work as well.

They are tapered, so there is a lip you could get a purchase on. Going in you need something that is round and same diameter as outside of race to drive it in. The right size socket will work.

It worked! Thanks so much! I just wasn't being "brave" enough I guess. It's off to lake seminole fishing thursday morning for the weekend, and I am leaving nothing to chance for the 280 mile drive down there. Thanks again, Alaskaskiff
