Does anybody know what effect I will have If I change from a 2/1 to a 1.87/1 ratio? How will it effect prop size? will I need to go up or down? Thanks

What is your problem? Whatever it is, I doubt you suddenly need a gear change to cure the problem unless you have changed altitudes.
Also, what Year, Make, and model engine do you have?

You would need less pitch to accomplish the same general performance. A different set of gears would set you back $600 - $800 depending on the model (ballpark).

My problem is that I hit a rock with the prop and bent the shaft on my lower unit ! I have been looking around for a used lower unit and I have only been able to find one with a 1.87/1 ratio and I have 2/1 ratio right now! If change to a1.87/1 ratio I don't know what prop to go to. I have a 24p 4 blade right now but it was bent as well so It will have to be replaced ! I'm in the process of trying to take my lower unit apart to see how the gears look. If they look good I will just get a new shaft, bearings and seals for the lower unit I have and put it back together!

Here on lboats or anyplace that sells Sierra parts NAPA or most parts stores might as well get a seal kit and put a impellor in it while it's apart
