Is a lower end Johnson 85ESL compatable with a Johnson 88SPL?

sonya71 You know I just could never find an written answer for this question. I have matched up lower units from an 1968 25 hp to a 1976 25hp with no problems. I think they did't change that often. I would check the bolt pattern and if you need to take yours to the one you want to try amd see. I would bet it would fit. But I atleast bumped your post to the top.<br />steve

If you give the years and/or model numbers of both engines, I'm sure one of the guys could tell you if it's a match.
