Hello all, I have a question. I have a 1967 Starcraft Islander with a 120 mercruiser outdrive and 120 mercruiser engine. I have found a 68 Starcraft with a 2nd Gen Mercruiser Alpha One Outdrive and was wondering how hard it would be to remove that and install on my boat. It is on a glass boat and it seems to be a good price $500. Would this be a huge project or not to bad? It seems that all the parts are there and I do believe that my engine would work with it but do not know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated and many thanks in advance.

P.S. here is the add if you would like to see.

Re: Changing Outdrives

First you need to know the gear ratio of the potential replacement drive. It needs to be the same as the take off unit. Since you have the 120 the only other ratios will be higher and therefor like putting monster tires on a small truck.
Loss of power.

Ayuh,... It's no doubt a Doable project, but it appears to be an Alpha 1, not the Gen.II...
