I have a Bayliner Cuddy with a Volvo Penta AQ125A (that's seized from sitting)with a 270 sterndrive. I'm being given a Volvo 6 cyl with 3 (1) barrel carbs. in-line. What else do I need to make this swap go as effortlessly as possible? I realize the boat is now set up for the 4 cyl, so I'll have to change some things out. Be kind, I'm a newbie to inboard engines and outdrives; but am familiar with motors and have owned many outboards.
I'm attempting to get this old girl ship shape for a possible sale and then re-build the AQ125 over the winter and sell that too. I'm disabled with mounting medical bills and advancing illness and need to get this done while I can.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Re: Changing over from 4cly to 6cly

are you sure its the engine that's seized, and not the outdrive?

You will need to change gear ratios by swapping on the lower unit from the 6 cyl boat.

Check that B30 manifold really well....make sure it has years and years of life in it
they're $2000+ if you can find one

and when you do find one... buy it for a spare.

The B30 VP units are a tough sell because its widely known about the manifold availability issue

not sure you'd get much money out of it.... never get what you'll put into it to get it running.

I'm 99% sure it's the motor; but not being sure how to check the outdrive there's always the chance to be wrong. The gear shift is in nuetral; yet will not move back and forth. I figure the cable may be frozen from sitting (?) The prop does spin, with no noise.. What am I looking for sir ?

easiest way is to pull the drive. then try to turn the motor. no turn=motor. turn=drive. you have to pull it anyway so no extra effort there anyway.
