I need to change the propeller on my merc 50hp. Not sure even how to get started. There are special clips that lock the nut on. Where can I get some information on the proceedure on how to do this and what tools I might need.
Thanks!

Put a block of wood between the top of the prop and the bottom of the ventilation plate so the prop won't turn. Loosen the nut and that washer with the tabs should come off. You can straighten them before you re-assemble it. Install all the parts in the reverse of how you took them off. Bend the tabs on the washer to fit into the grooves. Torque the prop to 55ft lbs.

I concur with captain SS Minnow but for one small omition. Lubricate the propeller shaft with anti-seaze or waterproof grease before slipping the propeller back on. This will ensure that your prop does'nt seaze on the shaft and allows for easy, effort free removal when future maint. is required.
Good Luck and Good Boating.+

I also concur! Never seize is a must! It is grey in color and can be purchased at the auto parts store. Just be careful because that stuff gets all over the place somehow!
