I have a Cobia center console with a C60 Yamaha 2 stroke on it. I have a fuel leak and I think it is coming out of the fuel/water seperator. I recently tried to take the seperator off, but it was on so tight I couldn't budge it and I was afraid that I might rip the screws out of the fiberglass. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing off without actually unhooking the entire thing and taking it out and then removing it in a vice? Also, if I replace the seperator filter and still have a leak, how can if find the leak when the entire fuel tank and fuel lines are inaccessible?

Thanks for any help :)

Welcome Jett - Take an oil filter strap wrench to remove the old one. When you install the new one put a lite coat of oil on the rubber seal and hand tighten only.

I'll let someone else take a crack on the potential fuel leak.

Thanks Solittle,

I tried the oil filter wrench, the metal band type. That didn't budge it and the force I was using made me think that I would pull the screws out of the fiberglass :(

Jett

Better to pull the screws out & patch the holes than to let gunk get into the motor.

Tempo makes a complete replacement kit (housing and filter) for like $40 search iBoats or West Marine for it and you'll quickly find it.

mine are always hard to get off and on, i have the oil filter wrench that is like a clamp like pliers. it usually requires enough force that it bites into the filter and gas spills out of the holes the wrench puts in it. but hey im replacing it. when you put the new one on, dont tighten it at all, just hand snug it lightly.
