does anyone know what the part number is to replace a vro pump with a straight fuel pump on a jhonson 1995 70 hp ? do you need to do anything to the motor after you do this change thanks bill. buy the way I had the top end done at the shop for $1900.00 that included water pump and carbs rebuilt.

Pump BRP # 438559, is a 3 hose, pump for a 70 hp. fuel inlet hose, outlet hose, and pulse hose, you will have to find a place to mount it. remove the OMS pump, and disconnect wiring to it. and to oil tank. Premix you fuel 50-1 TC-W3 oil, before you run the motor, make sure you have primed the premixed fuel all the way to the carbs.

Re: chaning vro to a straight fuel pump

ok I have done alot of reading about this vro pump deal.the shop I was using for my engine work said they hardly ever see any engines still hooked up to the vro and the shop that is doing the power head rebuild said he thinks the vro should be unhooked? now after all the reading I see it is about 50 to 50 on if the vro should be unhooked. Now I am not sure. I will say this I think from the sounds of things I may have had carbon buils up or a carb or two running lean the bottom two cylenders when out so I do not think the vro was the problem, just not sure what to do ?

Re: chaning vro to a straight fuel pump

First of all your motor didn't come with a VRO. It came with the newer OMS pump. I'd be real leary of a shop that wants to rebuild the motor and does not know the difference. Any OMC/BRP injection pump cannot stop oil going to one cylinder. Carbon build up has more to do with top capable rpm than the fuel/oil pump. A restricted or dirty carb will not be cured by a new fuel pump.

The OMS pump does several things you can't do manually. If, in the future, a fuel restriction develops the pump will automatically pump more oil. That alone may save another rebuild. It will warn you if the oil level is low and you forgot to check. Then it will warn you if there is no oil flow. None of that can happen with premix. Forget the oil in one trip and it's probably toast. Develop a fuel restriction and you'll never know until it's too late.

Personally I'd never run another 2 stroke outboard without oil injection.

I had used two-strokes for twenty years, never forgot to add oil.In 1970 I slipped one time.My memory of what that did to me.Last dollar I had to buy that brand new 1969 100hp Johnson went up in smoke. But every body`s not stupid like me.Just do`nt forget to add oil, hang a tag on the key, james

Big sign saying "mix oil at 50:1" on the filler works wonders for me.
