I just bought my first boat and can't wait to take delivery of it in the spring. I am looking for any info, advice, likes or dislikes on the
Chaparral 230SSI.

Re: Chaparral 230SSI

Jim696
Congrats on your new boat. I just bought this past spring the Chap 260 Cruiser 2003 w/ 320 hp Volvo GXi 5.7. Overall, an excellent boat. Chap makes good boats. I had been shopping around for almost 3 years. My problem has been the dealer- very poor service. My advice one which I will do on any new boat in the future is never pay in full until the boat has been delivered and it was properly commissioned. We still have experienced problems that need to be corrected that go back to the spring. They rushed it out as soon as it came in. It was my first boat too so I had no idea that it would be as bad as it was. Good luck.

I sure have been hearing a bunch of bad press lately concerning Chaps. Especially the dealer network. Buyer beware!

Re: Chaparral 230SSI

Jim696
I hope you don't mis-understand my comments mentioned earlier. During the late summer my dealer fired the service mgr. and the replacement has been quite an improvement. However, my first mistake was buying from a dealer 30 miles away although the other one is in Va. on the Potomac still very far. Of course, in my discussions with other boat buyers they have experienced many of the same problems w/ dealer service so its just not a Chap problem. I spoke two months ago to a guy who bought a brand new Sea Ray and his dealer sounded worse than mine. Remember, you hold the power with that check. Dealers will promise the world just to get your money.

just one word...Suds.

I hope your new boat buying experience works out. Congratulations and good luck! Many of us who have very nice boats still long for the opportunity to have a brand new boat that we can take care of and know the whole history on.
