Charger only goes tto 77% ?

Put the charger on the Trojans today and it only went to 77% (digital readout). At first I thought I had lost a battery but it did the same on the other battery as well. I left one on for a few hours and the battery was too hot to touch when I checked on it! This is one of those 2/30/60 amp Scheumachers and I've never had a problem with it before. Is this what they do when they "go out"? Or have two of my batteries tanked at the same time? Thanks.

have them load tested at the auto parts store. just to make sure. my charger does that sometimes, but doesn't get that hot. i have trojans group 27 1150 cca.
