I just bought a Johnson Seahorse Mod#j35ecsm. I also have an ancient trolling motor with alligator clips that go on a battery. Can I put a seperate battery in the boat for trolling and have it charge from the outboard?

You can do it,but that 35HP charge system barely puts out enough amps to charge the battery for it's own use.It will never be close to what a troll battery needs. We are probably talking 4 amps or less output.

DHP

Thanks. That's kinda what I thought. Looks like I get to carry the battery back and forth from home.

If you have power at the dock, install an on-board charger and plug-in when the boat is at the dock.
