Charging Battery

What is the best way to check to see if my Mercury 60HP (2001) is charging my battery?

Also wjy would the tach wires from under the flywheel be getting hot to the touch?

with a multimeter check the dc voltage before you start the motor and then check the voltage with the motor running. if everything is ok the voltage should be a few volts higher when the motor is running.

The 2 yellow wires from the stator go to the rectifier. Your tach is also connected to one of them and that is why if the rectifier goes bad, it affects your tach. I could see them getting hot if you have a shorted diode in your rectifier.
