On the 150 black max circa 1988 the large 2 yellow wire rectifier/ regulator has failed, can I convert to the 2 regulator/rectifier set up? I have the 2 new regulator/rectifiers and alloy plate for the water jacket. Any advice appreciated.

How did you determine it failed? Diode check? One quick check, is to put your multimeter on AC current, if you see .25 volts across the battery terminals (needs to be at least 1500 rpms to reach full charging output) their is at least one blown diode. If you want to statically test, used diode check on your meter. You have a full wave rectifier.
