charging question

hi guys i have a 1989 115 hp four cylinder mercury serial number oc106992 i have the 9 amp stator with a rectifier for a charging circuit yesterday i had the boat out and the volt gauge was saying 16 volts is this really a problem being that there is no regulator on my motor and as long as the motor is running its gonna charge the battery , am i wrong in this thinkin ?

Only on some electronics, you could hook up another battery parallel to hold the voltage down.

so this is nothing to be alarmed about then ? ...this is a 9 amp cdi stator,mercury recitifer, mercury trigger, maiiory switchbox
im just concerned about the battery overcharging
