I'm always lurking on here but haven't posted anything in a few years but couldn't remember my user name or password so I'm a newbie again.
So I have a 1995 Mercury Force 90 hp and I'm trying to find out what the charging system puts out but I can't find it anywhere. I'm contemplating buying an on board alternator from Minn-Kota and upgrading to a 24 volt trolley. I'm guessing I'll have to stick with the 12 volt trolley as my charging system would be too small to charge 2 trolley batteries.
I'd appreciate your help. Thank you.

You are going to need to charge the trolling motor battery on land anyway.

Get the 24v troller if that is what you want/need.

The amount of time needed running at wide open throttle, to put any meaningful amount of juice back into the battery , would be ridiculous.

Better to spend your $100 on an extra battery for more trolling time..

Now, if you were running a huge new 4 stroke with an automotive type alternator, and making long wot runs, it might be a consideration.

Well, my fishing is on Lake Powell so I do make some very long runs most of the time and I don't use the trolley hard at all. Mostly just to stay in place. If I'm actually going to troll, I have a 2 hp gas kicker on the back. The only reason I was thinking of going to a 24 volt trolley was because I like the foot peddle of the Minn-Kota better than the Motorguide. I have both trolleys with similar power. My current trolley is the MG of 46 lbs. It's been on the boat for more than 5 years and it has proven to work very well for me and my style of fishing. I fished all last week without charging it and it still had plenty of juice left. My other trolly I have had sitting in the garage for years is a Minn-Kota Maxxum 54 lbs thrust. It's 24 volt though. Either one I'd be very happy with. I just prefer having the momentary switch on the right side of the pedal vs the left like the MG has but I've been using the MG for a long time so either one is fine with me.
Pretty petty I know but I have all the hardware to do any combination. Well, except an additional battery of course. I even already have the one bank on board alternator thing from Minn-Kota so I'm contemplating which way to go. My mechanic looked at my motor and thinks it's the 16 amp system.
