Re: charging system

Most Likely the alternator Burn out the battery. Is there a Regulator, an over voltage current protector, and a one way fuse that allows the voltage only to flow in one direction. You may of burn out the alternaotr or the Batteries... Or both!

Re: charging system

Easy...Charge battery fully. THen with a voltmeter check the voltage at the battery. Should be about 12.5 dc Volts. Then crank and run the engine and re-check. Should be above 13.5 dc Volts. If not she is not charging.

If she is not charging then we have to check the output of the stator for AC voltages next.

Re: charging system

If you like the idea of replacing parts (the bolt on variety) to see if you can fix the problem, try another rectifier (triangular shaped, probably 4 wire connection) -- best if you can get a used one known to be good, other wise you can pick up a new one for between 30 and 40 bucks. (NAPA probably has it in a Sierra after-market model.) The rectifier is usually a pretty good bet.
