Charging wire?

I just got a 1990 70hp Evinrude for my pontoon boat. The boat is set up with dual batteries and an isolator. Which wire on the motor is the charging wire? I don't have my service manual yet and need to get this hooked up so we can take to the water this weekend. Thanks!

Re: Charging wire?

The wire coming off the rectifier ( a presume it is red), and goes to the battery cable side of the starter solenoid is the normal configuration that I am used to seeing. But I confess, I'm not familiar with the 1990.

That's about right. To run off an isolator, you'll need to disconnect the charging circuit from directly connecting back to the battery cable and run a separate wire to the common post of the isolator.

Thanks, FR. I found the rectifier and disconnected it's red wire from the solenoid. It's now run out to the isolator. I wish I had a schematic in front of me for peace of mind, but that's gotta be right.
