i have a 1976 70hp johnston on my boat . i am going to buy a trolling motor (50lbs thrust) i have a deep cycle/starting battery with my 70 hp motor.can i just hook the trolling motor right to this battery. will it hurt the charging system on the 70hp or do i need a seperate battery for the trolling moter.if i do how to i recharge it back up when i'm out at the lake for a few days and can not plug a charger in any wear.

leafs <br />Not a good idea to use the same battery, as you will wear it down faster and it may leave you stranded when you need it most.(Starting) Get yourself a true Deep cycle marine battery and use that on the trolling motor and read this thread below. <br /><br />web page

It depends on how much you will use it, Leafs.<br /><br />I have used one, dual purpose, battery for both for several years. I never had a problem, but I use the troller sparingly and for maneuvering only.<br /><br />If you expect to use the troller a lot, or at high speed, get a deep cycle for it and save your starting battery for starting and running your electronics and lights.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
