IM looking to buy a lower end chartplotter to help me navigate around the Long Island sound area while Im fishing. I was looking at the Standard Horizon cp150 for around $400 plus the detailed chart(c-map-nt)for my area for $200. There are two other models in my price range, the Raymarine Raychart 425 and the Garmin 162.

I would appreciate any info on these units. I have read up on them, but there is nothing like experienced knowledge. THANKS

Re: Chartplotters

i'm looking for the same. i think i'm settled on the 162. running the demos in the store, i liked the 162 screen better. i'm waiting to grab one on ebay, but i've seen several websites selling in the $330-340 range. good luck-

Re: Chartplotters

Go to a store and work with the units you have in mind. NOTHING compares to personal experience. Reading on-line gives you technical data and specs but not the experience you need to make a decision. You'll see what I mean.
Make sure the unit is fast enough (drawing speed), displays what you need, is readable in dark and direct sunlight, has controls you like etc.

Hope this helps
Lou
