Re: CHEAP BOTTOM PAINT???

Is it going to stay in the water? Salt water or fresh? Slip, mooring or is it going to be a trailer boat? If you remove the boat or if you are willing to clean it alot ..... rustoleum would work.

If you leave it in the water be prepared to clean weekly or do it all over again.

I will try to ease your pain. $100 a gallon of the right stuff saves you MANY hours of work. Even if your season is only 3 months long that is less than $1 a day.

Regardless of what you paid if.... you are going to do it. IMO do it right once and don't worry about it.

Re: CHEAP BOTTOM PAINT???

It is used on aluminum boats alot. A good enamal paint should work fine and the advantage of rustoleum is the ability to touch it up.

Anit-fouling bottom paints are formulated to prevent marine growth. Since you will trailer... no growth. Fresh water boats just tend to stain unless you wash them off once in a while.

If you want you can even add a hardener (available at tractor supply or most auto paint stores) to improve the paint.

Bond-o has his boat painted with rustoleum I believe.

I have a 22' starcraft that has no paint on the bottom just on the sides above the water line. I go in the salt water all the time and just wash it down after every trip. Nothing wrong with it and its a 1988.

If you aren't looking for an anti-fouling paint (because it's not sitting in the water).. then why don't you go with something like Interlux Brightsides?

I don't think it will take a whole gallon of it.. maybe 2 quarts?
