hey guys I have a 6hp mercury as a trolling motor on my fishing boat, Iam looking at getting a cheap bagable inflatable boat for going around on some local lakes and to take camping, I have been looking at the intex excursion boats (4man) http://www.intexcorp.com/boats_lake_excursion.html, and at the sevylor 325 http://www.sevylor.com/hunting.html, how would my 6hp be on these boats, Both boats are rated for a 3hp motor, Iam fairly handy and could do some minor reinforcing if needed possibly to the transom, or build a plywood floor to assist with the larger motor, the sevylor has a nylon wrap and plywood floors avaialable from the factory, are either of these boats planeable with or without minor modifications?
how would they be with my 6hp? thanks for your help in advance

How do either of those support a 3 HP engine yet alone a 6 HP!

I wouldnt buy either of those. Im not to knowledgable but they just dont look to stable. I mean they look like a fish hook would go right through it. I would look at a Zodiac (only inflatable brand I know) simply because they use a better material. Its made outta that basketball stuff.

i own the intex, no way will it hold a 6hp. has enough trouble with a 2.5 air cooled. here's the motor mount they come with, and the air has to hold it up. it's good for the kids. also the 12 volt compressor that come with them is a joke, 3 -4 hours to fill. i use to has a gas powered air compressor for nail guns i would take. they are really a toy.

And they will never plane no matter how much power you put on the back. Hull speed is about 2 or 3 mph. They will go just as fast with an electric trolling motor as they do with a 3 or 6hp motor.

I would definately not buy any of those as you will just be waisting your money where you can rather buy something better the first time even if it cost a little more, to try and change those will be a nightmare as they are molded boats made from cheap plastic, and they are not planeable at all, a proper inflatable is made with hypalon or pvc that lasts for many years ..... and that can take the weight of an outboard ....... with a 6hp you need a good inflatable with a floorboard or inflatable keel if you want it on plane ..... there are good quality cheap little inflatables, like the avon, quicksilver or zodiac .......

Re: cheap inflatables help ???

well not what I was hoping for buy good to know before I spend the money, I was looking at the small zodiac type boats and even the small >10ft ones with the removable wood floors start at $1000+taxs....finding a small used inflatable locally is next to impossable around here, I have been keeping my eye open, checking all the used listings and what not as well as have a couple friends in the business keeping there eyes open, nothing has come up in the size and or price Iam looking for in the last 6 + months....that is why I started looking at those inflatables I listed which are around $200 give or take pluse the motor mount...anyways I'll keep my eyes open, any other suggestions or recomendations on where I can find what Iam looking for...
