Check Engine light comese on 2000 / 200 Fichts

I recently changed the sparkplugs in my 200 / 2000 Evinrude Fichts, and we changed all the batteries. While We idled at the dock, the port "check engine" light and horn sounded. I immediately turned it off, waited a few minutes and started it back up, and it ran fine. When were idling out to test run it, the nstrboard engined did the same thing, however, after turning it off, and restarting, it would run fine for a few minutes, then sound off and light again.
This sounds like ECU, but did disconnecting and reconnecting the batteries or changing the plugs mess up the ECU?

I ran them again today, tied up to the dock, under load (engine(s) in gear intermittently). No light came on, no horn. However, at idle under load, when I bring it out of gear the engine(s) kill. Any thought?

I am not a FICHT guy but the consistant advice given here on FICHT problems is that they need the love and care of factory trained technicians and do not liike driveway wrenches at all. I have seen the word indexed when referring to changing plugs whatever that means.

running XD 50. Should point out, that engines sat tilted up for about 5 months, and and I couldn't run them due to an injury I had. Couldn't get to the boat until recuperated.

Did you use the wing nuts that came with the new batteries, or did you do what the factory requires and use stainless steel nuts and lockwashers tightened with a wrench?

CHECK ENGINE light means a lot of different things, most common problems are under/over voltage, water in fuel filter, EMM overheat, or a sticking shift interupter switch. You need a laptop with diagnostic software and an interface cable to find out what error codes are stored in the EMM.

Thanks seahorse55.

I trashed the wingnuts....always have, and got down on them with serious beef. But you bring up an interesting point about the sticking shift interrupter switch. I notice that when I took them out of gear, both engines just quit numerous times. Not jamming them out of gear...just normal disengage.

I have plenty of laptops. Is the diagnostic software easily available?

Ebay was the first place I tried. I searched for "software for ECU / EMM and came up empty. Is there a specific name or part number?

Stay away from some of the Ebay FICHT software vendors, especially the one in Canada.

Here is a link to a source of what you need. As far as I know, this does not compete with iboats.

Too late, seahorse....ordered one and it's on the way. What seems to be the issue with this packet?
