checking coil off motor

Is there a way to bench check ignition coil for good or bad off motor from a 1974 Mercury model 40 4hp Serial #3937982 ? Thank you. Ducksir

You need a sensitive Ohmmeter. I only have specs on 1976 Merc 40HP coil. Primary winding .02-.04 ohm(nearly a dead short). Secondary winding 9-12 ohms
