Re: checking lower unit oil
If you think there's a need to check it. Change it! Remove top screw, then bottom, buy a tube of the recommended lower unit lube, squirt it in the bottom till it comes out the top. Remove the tube and put the bottom screw in. I keep a brass oil squirt can full of lube and pump a few squirts in the top to make sure it's full and to see what runs out of there when it's topped off on a regular basis.
