Checking Trim/tilt oil?

I have been trying to get the fill screw/plug out of my 1978 Johnny 115 Trim&Tilt, but it won't budge! It looks clean, no corrosion visable. I sprayed it with penitrant(wd40 type)>>but I can't seem to move it. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? The tilt lift arm has been seeping so I would like to check the fluid level.<br /><br />ALSO>>>can anyone tell me the drive gear ratio of my 115???<br /><br />THANKS!!!

use an impact screw driver and heat up around the screw.<br /><br />reeldutch

Go to your autoparts store and buy a impact screwdriver. The type I am talking about is the kind you tap on with a hammer. Do not use an electrical impact screwdrive unless you want to strip the slot out.

Boilermaker...most of the impact screwdrivers don't have a large enough bit for the fill screw, so look carefully. I have a screwdriver that fits the fill screw properly and tap the end of the driver and turn at the same time...normally works fine...just a thought

get an old chissel and grind it to fit the impact driver. also works for you lower unit drain and fill plugs.<br /><br />reeldutch

Thanks Gents,<br />I tried the impact driver (hammer type), but as said the bit is to small. I will have to try the old chissel bit.<br /><br />ANYONE KNOW THE GEAR RATIO OF THIS ENGINE????<br /><br />Thanks Again.

A good inpact screwdriver will have several sizes of bits. Well they did 20 years a go!!!!!!!!!
