OK Halloween in the UK is not as big a party as it is in the US, but the local kids dress up and go "Trick or Treating", as I always do I got a big bag of sweets from my local pick & mix shop and handed them out to those who knocked on the door.

At about 9.00pm I get yet another knock at the door, armed with my bag of sweets I opened the door to find 3 kids aged about 5 to 10yrs and thier mother, I dug into my sweets and whent to hand them out only to be stoped by the mother telling me that she was not letting them have any sweets this year and that they would only except CASH!!!!!.

I told the woman that I only had the sweets to hand out, at which point she called me a f*&%ing tight fisted b'stard and told her kids that people like me were scum.

Is it me???????

No, it's not you. It is a shame people raise children that way. A treat is a treat.... maybe Mom was a former or current "working girl" and was missing a night of making cash!

Heck, I live in such a rural area I have never seen a child trick or treating.... actually I miss that.

Bob

WOW... I don't think I would have been as pleasant to her.

I think I would have tried to get her to the side and rip her a new one.

Either that, or go make a copy of a $20 and toss in her bag! She'd get all the help she needs after that!

H.

I agree T or T is out of hand. Not because of the young families coming around with cute outfits; it's the older kids just coming for candy!! And, not even trying to dress up!

We had about 75 kids last night, most little kids and really fun to answer the door and interface with. About 8 PM the teenagers started coming; we shut off the porch light, didn't make much difference. I just told them the light was off
(Supposed to say we're not handing out treats) and I didn't give treats to anyone over 12. Some dirty looks etc. But, I think most knew they were in the wrong.

I agree.

We only had two groups stop by last night. One was little guys/gals (with parents) and the other were in thier teens 16-18 and dressed to the hilt! Restores my faith that there are good kids still out there. :)

I feel sorry for those kids....what a rotten mother...

I pass out treats for the kids. Put on some scary sound effects and dress up.

I sit on a table out front. If little kids are too scared I walk over to them and give them their treat. I always try to compliment them on their manners or costume.

In my coat pocket I keep a couple of onions.

If a big kid comes with no costume I reach in my pocket, grab an onion and drop it into their bag before they can figure out what it is.

They get excited and dig for it, since it is heavy. When they find out what it is I tell them they are too old to T and T but if the give me the onion back I will give them a Smartie.

That way the don't leave angry with a hard vegetable to toss later. Some of the kids are actually funny and laugh about it and don't want to give the onion back. LOL

Re: Cheeky B'tards

what a crock! thats too bad. me i love halloween. i love scaring the kids when they come to the door. i have a bunch of different masks that i vary thruout the night. but my favorite is the big hairy spider i have rigged up to the ceiling over my porch. its connected by fishing line inside the house and i will hide around the corner looking out a small window and drop it down on unsuspecting kids. always gets a good scream. i aways give good stuff and probably more than usual.

"Stupid is, stupid does." I'd love to know how successful she was with that bit at other homes. I don't know anyone who would've obliged her request in that situation.

It's "tricks" or "treats" right? No "treats" allowed. Well, I would have shown her the old "let me show you what I have im my pocket for you trick."

You know, the one where you tell someone I have something in my pocket for you. You then pull your hand out of your pocket with just one finger extended.

You guys missed her point.
She was schooling her kids.

Class was panhandling 101. :D :D

It wasn't you RPJS it was her. She shouldn't even have kids.
I live in the country and if one came by here like that I would most likely introduced her backside to my number 11 shoe.
