Anyone know about how much an early 70's cheetah boat is worth? It is the outboard model not the jet model. It's in very good shape with a 150hp mercury. Thanks.

Re: cheetah boat value

I would like to know just out of curiosity. I have a 77 that I'm doing a resto on.

Re: cheetah boat value

We would need to see pictures to determine what its worth. One person's idea of "very good shape" and another's idea of it can be two totally seperate things. How well does it run? When was the last time it was out? Winterized? Whats the longest amount of time it has sat for? ect...

Where was it stored. Also the shape of the stringers, floor, and transom are critical. Post some pics up!

Re: cheetah boat value

These pics are all i have at the moment. I will have cash this friday and plan on looking at it then, sellers description below.
"I need to sell my 1971 cheetah speed boat with a mercury 1500 150 hp. motor on it for a decent running car doesnt have to be anything to special at all. the boat is in good running condition it can easily be sold in the summer time for 3500-4000 dollars. the trailer is in good shape little if any rust at all would come with the boat. the boat comes with a tow bar for pulling tubes a stilletto performance propeller as well as an extra proppeller. And the pictures on the top left thats just snow on the side of the boat and on the front top just snow its not a scratch. THOSE ARE NOT SCRATCHES its snow"

I'd like to show up and buy it if it's as nice as it looks but want to make sure i'm not paying too much. Over the phone i got him down to $2000.

The Cheetah has some nice lines.
The photos are terrible and don't show anything other than it is blue and white and has a Merc on it.

40 year old boat. I wouldn't buy it without a water test. In the winter I don't guess that is going to happen.
If it has a wood floor, it is likely soft and needs to be replaced, or has already been replaced. Get in the boat. Poke around and make sure you know what you've got. Transom cracks? Water in the bilge? Prop in good shape?

This boat is not magically going to be worth 2x as much come spring. After a water test if the upholstery is great, the floor is solid and it runs great, I'd MAYBE go $2500. If it has problems, it may not be worth $1000.

Have you owned or restored an older boat before?

This^^^

If it's spent any length of time out in the elements without a cover I'd assume it's rotted. Then it's only worth the value of the motor and trailer. Do a compression test on the motor.

Re: cheetah boat value

Everyone else has pretty much nailed it, depends on condition. I would ask it to be run on muffs and a quick compression test. Get in and give the floor and transom a good look. Look for any soft spots, rot, cracks, etc. Ask about the history (maintenance, storage, use, etc) and use you judgement to tell if he's truthfull. Lastly, don't fall for "in the spring it will be worth xxx." It's worth what a buyer is willing to pay. That may be more in the spring, or it may not. Tis the season for good deals.

Good luck!

Re: cheetah boat value

Sorry for the picture quality, i made the pics larger which made them blurry. Yes i own and am currently restoring an older boat, my 1960 slickcraft. I was wondering if the "cheetah" was a lower quality or higher quality boat to base any offer on. I've never heard of a "cheetah". Thanks for all the replies!
