chevy v6 engine swap

recently purchased a float boat with a blown engine( they ran it with no water till she locked up) it has a chevy v-6 with a volvo penta outdrive twin screw. would appreciate some info on replacing this engine with a deisel engine?

Gonna be some really interesting problems to solve, like the drive ratio difference since diesels rev so much lower, the fact that diesels tend to weigh a LOT more, just for starters.<br />I'd get that idea out of my head as soon as I could.

ok bomar--just a thought since i'll be replacing the whole engine---so i should go back with another v6--is a car engine usable?

Sure, as long as you change the cam, freeze plugs, water circulation pump, head gaskets; and use a marine starter, alt, carb, fuel pump, and a few other things I am omitting.<br />Just buy a marine rebuilt long block.

Go to some boat stores. They should have local publications (usually free) that have ads from marine engine rebuilders and suppliers.<br /><br />Just pick the V6 you want and start contacting those local shops for the engine and installation. As Bomar76 said, don't consider non-marinized engines.

a marine long block would be the best bet. can purchase one from auto zone for 1025.00 . thats what i'll do. thanks everyone
