Chip on tooth on lower unit gear.

How bad would it be to run a 70hp evinrude with a chipped tooth on forward lower unit gear.

Could be an inconvenient time bomb.. New gear would be very expensive, so try to find a good/used gear. Go to marineengine 'dot' com, and find the gear part number for your model, then try salvage yards.. I use Tim's outboard 218-682-2331

Get it replaced ASAP. If it was mine I wouldn't run it the way it is.

a chipped tooth means the fuse is lit....how much time until she goes boom is dependent on how far from shore you would be when it lets loose.

I wouldnt run it until it was fixed.
