Hello all, so I got a alpha one sterndrive and the lower unit has a good little chunk chipped off of it at the front side above the bullet (got a couple pics) making a small hole. My question is what's directly behind that? And can running it like this cause more damage inside? Would epoxy help or does it have to be welded? Just want to know if it can run in the water like this. Any advice/info is much appreciated. 20200531_163740 (wecompress.com).jpg

if you have a hole, you hit something hard (like a rock)

yes, running it broken can cause more damage.

you need to get it fixed

take it to a competent welder. if the crack goes into the oil cavity, you may have other issues.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... It depends on just what comes outa the small hole,......

That's a transition area,.... Below is gear oil,...... Above is the water pocket that already has a drain hole,....

The shift shaft sits back abit, 'n there's a water pocket forward of it,.....

If there's no oil leakin' out, I'm guessin' you got incredibly Lucky,...

If it's the water pocket, don't worry 'bout it,.....

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I was hoping I got lucky. Nothing leaked out and oil monitor still showing full. Ima try getting it patched up the best it can at the shop and then give it a test run well see how it goes. Thanks again guys.
