HI... I am happy to have found the iBoats forum (have gotten LOTS of helpful / great info) and pleased to be a new member.
My son just purchased (for cheap!) a 1967 Mercury 3.9 HP (model 39) serial number 2192282. Overall in good shape ...as soon as we do a few things - new impeller and a carb rebuild....we are very optimistic it will be great.
I am asking that someone with this motor take and post a picture - or link me to one - that shows how the wire spring associated with the choke mechanism is supposed to fit / be installed. The choke lever is there, as is the brass 2 or 3 inch flat "connector, the choke plate, and the wire spring. I just can't figure out how the spring clips on so that it will stay.
Second, I am hoping someone can help me with specific info - resistances between leads, leads and ground, etc. - as to how to check the coil on this model. It has the magneto ignition with points and condenser, and NO electronic box.
The non-factory manual I have is of no use on either of these ..... grrrrr
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks.....
