Hi,
I have a 1987 Regal with a 5.7 liter v8 and a 4bbl Rochester carb. The choke is a weak link in this power set up. This chike is spring manual. Is there a possible electric conversion for the choke.
Thanks Roman

the choke has such a small effect. usualy it is a rich condition. have you leaned it out? if it is rich. what is the problem i guess would be a start.

A.D. The boat starts perfectly when cold. However, when warmed up, I have to put the throttle all the way up to get it started. Obviosly I pul back once it is running. Thanks Roman

sounds like the carb is flodding over? run boat then turn engine off remove spark arrestor look down carb is fuel dripping? is choke butterfly closed? if it is the choke just lean it out loosed 3 screws and turn it counter clock wise till it opens. if flooding rebuild carb. i am betting the carb is flooding over when shut off!

I agree with a.d.'s advice -- probably not the choke. You do have the option of converting to a manual choke, though. My boat is about 10 years older than yours, and the spring-type choke was a problem (cold-starting problem). I installed a manual choke with a kit purchased at one of the auto shops (Pep Boys, I think), and it works fine -- cold starting no longer a problem.

But again, it doesn't sound like the choke is likely to be your problem....

The carb is only two seasons old. Would it be time for a rebuild already. Thanks Roman
