Rebuilt my carb tonight - looks pretty good (not that I really could tell the difference!) but when I took it out, I discovered that the choke heat pipe is broken about an inch above where it connects to the manifold. It was covered by the cancer-cloth sheath. I've found the part (pipe) listed as no longer available, but in doing so I also see that it's supposed to connect at the manifold via a flare fitting (I think that's what I see anyway. . .). Right now I don't see any type of fitting there on mine - no way to remove the little stub. What can/should I do here? Can I use a bit of hose and some clamps to rejoin the two pieces at the break?

it's been a couple years since i R&Red one on my last L6. but if i remember right. the flare fitting fits into the choke assy on the carb. the other end just slides into a hole on the manifold and is just an open tube for heat to rise up the hole on and warm up the bimetel spring . on mine. it was rusted off too. so i just drilled the old one out so i could stick the new one in. sorry this don't solve the problem of nla parts though..... maybe ya can make one?

that tube in the pic is what i think is the one in question..... just slides into the manifold...

You're right - I was not thinking with all 6 cylinders - the image I was looking at has just one flare fitting & I ignored the fact that there's one on the other end! A little liquid wrench and a pair of Vice Grips and I had the piece out of the manifold. It's made such that the stove pipe slips down into the tube going through the manifold. So, a drill bit was also the tool for me to remove the broken off portion, and I'm off to find some pipe to flare and bend and I'll have a brand-spanky-new stove pipe! Thaks!
