Hello, this is my first post. I have a question about the choke stove pipe. My boat would run good for about 20 minutes or so then start cutting out, like it was running out of gas. I thought it was water in the fuel, but check that and it was clean. Tonight, while taking the carb off for a rebuild, i noticed the stove pipe was all but disintegrated. could this have been my problem all along. Would I be better off to covert to electric choke, I do run it in cold weather some or repair this. If i do repair would i need to take the manifold off to remove any other pieces from drilling? If i convert to electric, would i need to plug the hole in the manifold? thanks!

Re: choke question

a new tube can be made from1/4 in brake line,if you drill out the old tube just blow out the shavings,if you switch to electric the heat pipe can be left in the manifold, holes can be left open

Re: choke question

Is the motor cutting out at idle when the 20 minutes goes by? Say, right about the time the choke fully opens up? Then continues running poorly until the motor cools off again?
What happens when you throttle up when the motor is running poorly? Does it catch and go, or back fire and die?

If you can tease the throttle and then rev the motor up okay, you have a problem with the idle system of the carb.
This could be bad float adjustment, dirty idle jets or partially plugged passages.

If, however, once the choke plate opens and the engine starts running bad, when you hit the throttle the engine just dies, or backfires and dies, you have a severe lean condition, likely caused by improper float adjustment, restricted fuel flow, (dirty filter, water in the water seperator, pinched fuel line or faulty fuel pump.
