I found the plunger on the choke coil to be frozen in position and was able to free it up for the most part by removing the plunger and cleaning. Once reinstalled it moves when activated but I think there is still crud inside the coil itself. Is there a good way to clean this out or would it be better to just replace. I didnt know if soaking it down with contact cleaner would help. Thanks

Pst,

don't know what the coil is made of or how it is sealed. i'd be concerned that contact cleaner would be too agressive on the coil insulation for a "soaking".

got anything more benign for a soak?

Re: Choke solenoid question Johnson 200hp 1977

I,m thinking if I soak it down with contact cleaner and the dry it out good I should be alright. I believe it is just a coil winding inside similar to a motor winding. Worst case I guess I would have to replace it.

Another question I have is, motor has center fire spark plugs in it. Never seen this type used and am curious what should be in there. 1977 Johnson 200hp motor. May have to post another topic for this info.

Thanks again
