Choke solenoid two wires?

Johnson 110 hp 1989.
My choke stopped working and a friend lend me a used one to test it, and it is not working either.
Just want to know where the two wires from the back of the solenoid cylinder go? Right now one goes to the actual cylinder and the other to the top of the cylinder bracket.
Is this right?

Yes, black to ground, purple/whitestripe hot, when key on and pushed in.
